History of Knorr-Bremse in Lund

From Armaturfabriken to Knorr-Bremse

  • 1889 AB Armaturfabriken Carl Holmberg is founded. The factory, which is located just next to the railway in Lund, manufactures machine parts such as valves, taps and manometers.
  • 1918 AB Armaturfabriken Carl Holmberg is incorporated in AB Nordiska Armaturfabrikerna, NAF.
  • 1919 a license agreement between Knorr-Bremse AG and NAF AB is signed. NAF starts up production of air brakes for SJ, the Swedish state railways.
  • 1987 NAF becomes a separate company.
  • 1994 the license agreement between NAF and Knorr-Bremse is changed and now also includes the right to perform service and maintenance on the Nordic markets.
  • 1988-1999 the ownership of NAF is changed a few times and eventually, NAF becomes part of the English group Ivensys.
  • 2000 Knorr-Bremse takes over NAF Broms AB. Knorr-Bremse NAF Broms AB is formed.
  • 2004 the company moves, after more than 100 years in central Lund, to new premises in the western outskirts of Lund. At the same time, the company name is changed to Knorr-Bremse Nordic Rail Services AB.
